Operating History

Caithness Petroleum is a privately owned British independent which operated exploration, appraisal, development and production projects in Morocco, UK North Sea and USA. It is now focussed on acquiring and developing production in North Africa and the Middle East.

Caithness Previously operated:

Morocco (onshore) - Rharb basin

  • Operated 2D seismic survey
  • Operated 3D seismic survey
  • Drilled 9 exploration wells making 6 gas discoveries
  • Developed 5 gas discoveries and put into production for local market
  • Producing 3 million cu ft gas per day

 

 

Morocco (onshore) - Fes permit

  • Operated 2D seismic survey
  • Operated 18,000 km full tensor gravity gradiometry survey plus LIDAR and magnetics
  • Drilled and logged 3,885 m Fes-1 exploration well
  • Drilled, logged and tested 4,172 m Fes-1X sidetrack

 

 

UK North Sea (offshore and onshore)

  • Operated two 2D offshore seismic surveys in Inner Moray Firth
  • Operated 3D offshore seismic survey in Inner Moray Firth
  • Drilled and completed 16,291 feet (MD) well from the Scottish mainland to offshore Lybster field on block 11/24 in the Inner Moray Firth
  • Put Lybster field into commercial production of oil and gas
  • Produced 300 barrels oil per day and trucked to local terminal.

 

 

Barnet shale, Texas, USA (onshore)

  • Drilled vertical stratigraphic well to 6,000 feet
  • Drilled horizontal well 9,650 feet measured depth, fracked 5,000 feet horizontal shale section. Completed shallow oil zone in the well and put into production, selling to local market.
